The new Privacy Act amendment, which came into effect on the 1st of December 2020, introduced some of the most significant changes to New Zealand’s privacy laws since the enactment of the Privacy Act 1993.
These changes came at a time when the data protection landscape was changing rapidly, both in New Zealand and globally. Cybersecurity and data protection are now one of the biggest issues faced by both local and international business.
